Guys, I am a permanent resident working in Canada. I got married last month in India. I was about to apply for my spouse's dependent PR this month but after quite an attempt my spouse's company is applying for her work permit (LIMA exempt). Work permit was applied online by attorneys two weeks back and we are awaiting the status.

I have couple of questions.

1. Will my wife have a problem travelling with work permit and TRV visa (if granted) instead of travelling as a dependent PR.
2. Can I apply for her PR in parallel with the work permit application. (I hope the WP may take close to 2 months, I do not want to wait applying her PR until then. But are two applications under one passport number recommendable?)

Please let me know.

1. No
2. Yes

there shouldn't be any issues. but i don't think she needs to mention her spouse in the work permit.

thanks much for the response.

(She did mention about me in the work permit application. But the application did not ask for my country of residence/status etc as she was not applying for my visa.)

If I decide to apply for PR alongside work permit, does she need to go through the medical exam twice. First for PR and then for WP if requested by cic.
Or is it better to wait for the status of the work permit and then apply PR once she is here. I understand it is my call, just looking for some directions.

You can apply outland PR from inside canada. you will probably have to do the medical twice (presumably from canada for the PR if she is here by then). outland has much more documentation than inland PR but it's faster at this point.

if you think there's a good chance of her getting a LMIA and work permit, you can apply for PR after she's here. that way her mailing address will be canadian, and there's a possibility that the case may be processed in ottawa. (if you apply outland).

Yeah waiting for the work permit status makes sense at this point. Thank you very much.
