Hello,

I am currently working as an international intern at Universite du Quebec a Montreal. I have to extend my stay here and my visa expires in January. I am confused about what all to apply for. I am being paid by the University and therefore I have to extend the work permit and also the temporary residence permit I guess. Do i have to fulfill some other criteria for the extension as well? Do I need a LMO from the University?

Please help!
Thanks
Shivaram

On what basis did you obtain your current work permit? Is it a post graduate work permit?

I am pursuing my masters in india and as part of the curriculum, we are required to do an internship at some other university and I got selected at UQAM. So i'm not sure its a post graduate work permit, Its a case 20 work permit.

Actually the problem was I was issued a student visa for the internship and I did not know it was the wrong one. So when I landed in Canada, the immigration told me that a student visa does not apply for an internship and they issued a work permit and TRV then

The university needs to obtain an approved LMO before you can apply for a work permit. They should get this done as soon as possible since approval can take several months.

And a CAQ

I went through the CIC website on LMO and it says LMO is not required for researchers which comes under the category of students. I am still a student with regard to my university in India and also the university I am working in has not deemed me as a worker but only as a student researcher. Can someone please clarify this for me??

Thanks!
