Work permit expiry in 1 month

Hello, my work permit will expire may 1st. My common law partner is sponsoring me to become a PR I will apply to stay as a visitor while my application is processing and will be submitting an owp with my application. My scenario is I was laid off from my job due to covid 19, I was wondering if I am still eligible for the Canada emergency plan. I don’t want to apply if It would put me at risk of being removed from Canada.

You are eligible as long as you are holding a valid work permit.

You can apply now but will have to cancel when you switch to visitor unless you have implied status from your OWP.

Ok thanks. I’m concerned because like I said I don’t want to do anything that could affect my PR application. Are call centres open right now? I really need to make sure they don’t send anymore money next month

Per the directions posted online , on the government's website , you have to apply each time for each month to get paid . If you don't apply for the next month period,you won't receive the funds . I'd review the directions online for the funds you've applied for and have received

For those applying to the CERB program when not eligible, or to both programs EI & CERB at the same time

Regardless of whether you receive CERB in error or not, it will have no effect on your PR app.
