Hi can anyone tell me if i can apply for an extension on my work permit,it expires in september,my permit was issued by usit in ireland, but on the permit it says NO EXTENSION UNDER THIS PROGRAM.So can i just apply to the canadian goverement for another work permit,as i dont want to go back to ireland at this time.I have a good job i enjoy and my employer says i might need an lmo but to meet all the criterias i need a drivers licence but i am only learning to drive now and i am afraid i might not pass a driving test by the time my work permit runs out.if someone can tell what my options are.aslo i am 36 years old so i dont know if my age will be a problem because to come here you had to be under 35.if someone can help me i would be ever so greatfull.

Sounds like you came over on a 1 year working holiday type visa which are non renewable. to get an LMO your employer will have to re advertise the job and prove he couldn't hire a Canadian or PR equally or better qualified than you. You won't get a WP without the LMO.

You need to get started on this ASAP otherwise you may not get the TWP through in time and will have to stop working until it arrives.

I'm in a similar boat - I have a 1-year working holiday type work permit that's non-renewable and expires in September. However, I'm also in process for permanent immigration - family class (being sponsored by my husband). If my permanent residency isn't approved before my WP expires, is there any way to renew it or at least get extended visitor's status without having to leave the country and re-enter?

I'm afraid that if I have to leave the country to re-enter as a visitor, they won't let me in because of all my ties to Canada and my outstanding immigration app. Are there any kind of humanitarian considerations that apply to me? :S

I'm hoping it won't come down to that, but I don't want to risk losing my job or be separated from my husband!

You can apply to extend/change your status as a visitor. You can't work though after your WP expires, till you get the first stage approval and OWP (if it's inland spousal application).

If your occupation appears on the following list, then you can apply as a federal skilled worker:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp

If your occupation does not appear on the above list, then you need a job offer in Canada from a Canadian company to apply for PR.
