Work Permit approved - But the question on travel

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post to the forum, I found it very information while reading other topics shared by people and importantly there replies.

My company applied work permit and it got stamped too. But the assignment on which I have to travel to Canada is cancelled. My Visa/WP is valid till Dec 2014

Now, can I apply individually to other companies in Canada directly? Do I need to transfer the Work Permit to the new employer in Canada?
What are the procedures I need to follow in these cases?

You can't transfer the work permit.

Yes - you can apply to other companies in Canada directly (anyone can do this - you don't need a work permit to apply to a company in Canada directly). If you find a company that is willing to offer you a job, they will first have to obtain a new approved LMO and then you will have to apply for a new work permit.
