Work Permit and Passport

I have to apply for a new work permit, I have a one year contract (and LMO) starting on November 2013 (ending Oct 2014) but my Argentinian passport expires on May 25. I cannot travel to Argentina to renew my passport before I apply for my work permit. Does anyone know if I can apply for work permit under this situation? I suppose I will get a work permit valid till May 25th, is that correct?

At indian high commision.
