I have been offered a post in British Columbia and will be applying for a temporary work permit for one year. How do I bring my husband with me and what paperwork does he complete? He would likely be providing childcare for our son rather then looking for employment in Canada. Does he apply for a open work permit or is there some kind of temporary spousal visa for this purpose? We do not intend to stay for longer then 1 year.

Thanks,

Your husband can apply to accompany you as a visitor (your son will also need to apply for a TRV) or for a spousal open work permit. You can make the 3 applications at the same time. There is no such thing as temporary spousal visa, for any purpose.

We're comming from the UK so would normally enter canada on an ETa as a visitor. I thought on that or on a TRV he would only be allowed to stay for 6 months. My post is for a year.

They can all apply as your dependents. Your husband can even work on that visa.

your employer should help out with details and paperwork.

Currently your spouse and perhaps child can’t travel due to the travel restrictions. You will need to apply and see if they can get a special exemption. It would be better if he had a SOWP and a job.

What are the details on this? I'm in a similar situation with spouse and kids, and told that they could get in on some kind of spousal permit and "study visas", I'd like to verify these claims... thanks!

Also what does TRV stand for? I tried to find this term in the glossary of terms but didn't find it there... thanks!

Look at the front page of the IRCC site prominently mentioned measures due to COVID-19

Also what does TRV stand for?
Temporary Resident Visa - commonly known as a visitor visa

I can see that one can enter for "essential reasons only", but surely there must be provisions for dependents of folks who have work-related visas to enter the country?
