Work permit along with PR process for Canada

Hi,
I have got a valid job offer from Canada and my company will soon be initiating work permit process, Can I start my PR process also simultaneously? Generally, how much time does it take to get a work permit? My initial plans was to start once I land in Canada. still thinking about it Also with my work permit,my spouse probably will get a dependent visa, does the dependent visa allows to work in Canada?
