Hello I am completing my eligible days to apply for Citizenship next month and I have a better Job opportunity in a different country, I am thinking of applying for the citizenship and take up that for a year or so, save some money and then come back permanently however I have a question If anyone has been in that situation and If I do that does it effect my citizenship process.
Any input/advise is welcome

thnx

Lots of people do it. You will have to maintain the permanent residency obligation (720 days in the last 5 years) up until the day of your oath. There is also a possibility of extra scrutiny/being asked for additional documents and proof of residency. If you are in compliance of all the citizenship eligibility requirements, it will be granted.

Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it. I have been living in Canada since March 2020 so I have fulfilled the PR obligation of 720 days.

Just make sure you continue to meet this residency obligation once you have left Canada (i.e. that you do not fall below the 730 days in the last 5 years).

I dont think If I have understood you, I have lived in Canada for 1095 days start from 2020-2023 and my 5 years period starts and end from 2020-2025, that means I have fulfilled the obligation within first 3 years (for PR and Citizenship) right ?, please correct me If I am wrong

Something like that. You have to maintain the 730 days for the past 5 years counting from the present date, until you take your oath.

So for example, you take your oath on Jan 25, 2025, then you should still have 730 days of residency between Jan 25 2020-Jan 25, 2025.

We've seen people here who leave Canada after citizenship and their application takes 3-4 years, during which they never returned to Canada, and they're shocked that their citizenship grants are denied.

I understood, thank you for the explanation, I believe my 730 day’s obligation is good till 2025, and hopefully the whole citizenship process wont take more than a year, god forbidden if it does, I will return by that time.
