Work history check

Hey guys. I have a question maybe you could help me to clear my doubts.

So as I understand CIC runs a background check on everyone. How do they check work history? Do they call the company or they contact mentioned in the employment letter person? What makes them do this check?

I wonder because I worked in my previous company 2 years ago and apart of two people everybody who knew me left, including the person who signed the letter. And I have not been in touch with that person.

Should I not be worried in vain? It just was such a long time ago. Or should I try to get in touch with my referee?

Guys please share your thoughts and experience.

Thank you.

They will call the person who gave the reference letter. They will also Google the company to confirm its legitimate.

I worked for a company in 2008 and the company no longer exists but the company owner gave me a letter with his contact details on the remaining letterhead he had. CIC can contact him directly but results are no longer on google. Will this be a problem?

Are you serious? Will they actually call the employers? In every instance or just where there is doubt?

Yes, that's part of the background check. That's how they confirm employment.

They make calls randomly. If there is enough evidence/documents on file they most likely won't. They surely do check the company on the internet if it's available.

1. CIC calling your office is a random event, with a very low probability.

2. Let's say, somehow, they DO call for a BG check. They will simply confirm whether you've
worked there or not according to the documents you have supplied. Even if all your colleagues
back then are now elsewhere, if the office is well organised, and has appropriate records,
there should not be any problem for you.
To be on the safer side, if you could, just give a heads up to the existing person responsible for answering
the call if it actually happens.

Bottom line, there's nothing to worry about it.
All the best.

I sincerely hope they won't for any of us! I think that's a big threat to anyone's job security. A company will feel threatened. I wasn't planning to tell my company the exact details of why I needed a detailed reference letter. I thought it was none of their business. Now I see :)
