Dear All,

I need your help establishing whether my work experience is relevant for Express Entry.

I have a medical degree (Doctor of Medicine, MD), but work as a bioinformatician (this falls under NOC 2121 Biologists and related scientists). I'm based at a genetics lab in a hospital, but my duties do not involve treating patients.

Could anyone kindly tell me whether this counts as work experience for EE?

Citing relevant sources is greatly appreciated, too.

Regards,
-- Debb.

It is considered as work experience. Its your choice, if you would like to practice Medicine in Canada or not.

To practice, you will need a license in Canada.

Else, MD is considered as education only. So you are good to go.

mr.preetsingh, thank you for responding promptly. May I trouble you for a source documenting this? Or could you at least point me in the right direction for ascertaining this matter? I'm fretting about this because the CIC EE score calculator shows that Work Experience may just be the tipping point for me.

What kind of document do you need?

I think he is asking for a link to canada.ca or a bylaw.. In other words is it written anywhere? But I think it works the other way around. Nowhere on Canada.ca it says that experience should be in the exact field. The only requirement I saw on experience is that it should be qualified work.

Yes it counts as work experience as long as yuh can prove that your job roles match to a great degree the NOC description

Your university degree has nothing to do with it

THUMB RULE

For Direct Invitation under EE : Education and JOB experience can be different.

For PNP : Education and JOB experience should be same.
