I submited my EE profile and received an ITA under CEC.

In the work experience section, I claimed two jobs: one year of Canadian experience and two years of foreign experience. My foreign experience job was from September 2007 to August 2010- almost less than 3 years so I claimed experience from September 2007 to July 2010 to trigger only two years of experience. I got points for two years.

When I asked my previous employer for a letter of reference, they stated in the letter that I worked from April 2008 to August 2010. For some reason, this was a job in the public sector and although I was working full time from September 2007, the official appointment was signed in April 2008!
The employer is willing to add a note in the letter explains that I was working full-times during the period September 2007 to April 2008 without an official contact. I am not sure if this is a great idea. I think it might be better to have a typical reference letter with the official dates as the employer suggests.

1. Should I cancel the invitation, update the profile, and submit again? Because of the changed dates in my foreign worker experience.

2. Should I just change the work history on my profile to match the reference letter and apply using the same ITA? Since the total number of points should not be affected by the changed dates.

3. If I do #2, in the personal history section, should I state that I worked in this job for the total period or only that is matching the letter? If I match the letter, what should I say about the remaining period?

Thanks for your help!

Although it would be better to have just one start and end date, what your employer is willing to do is OK, it does not matter one bit to CIC whether you had an "official contract" (I assume you meant contract). As long as the letter indicates that you were doing the same duties the whole time, you will get credit for the whole time.

Thanks guys.

I have the same question:
Can I change the dates in my work experience from September 2007 - July 2010 to April 2008 - August 2010 and apply using the same ITA? Remember that I got points for only two years when I created the profile and the new dates cover that too.
Or if I have to do that, then I have to decline the application and create a new profile.

Thanks!

If your points are same after the update, you may do that. But add an explanation letter with your application stating the reason clearly.

Ok, thanks.

If I have the option between these 3 options, which one should I choose:

1. Have a letter that states I worked "during the period of September 1st, 2007 to August 26th, 2010 (the contract was signed on April, 22nd, 2008)", keep the work history as it was in the profile "September 2007 to August 2010".

2. Have a letter that states I worked "during the period of September 1st, 2007 to August 26th, 2010 (the contract was signed on April, 22nd, 2008)", change the work history as "April 2008 to August 2010".

3. Have a letter that states I worked "during the period of April 22nd, 2008 to August 26th, 2010", change the work history as "April 2008 to August 2010".

Either way, I plan to leave this entry in the personal activity section as "September 2007 to August 2010".Is that okay?

Thanks again!

Go with option 1. Again, CIC don't care when you sign the contract as long as your employer certifies that you carried out your duties and were paid the entire time.

I would ensure consistency between your personal history and the work history. Having a discrepancy here will be confusing to CIC.

Does that statement between quotas in option 1 certify that for the full period of September 2007 to August 2010?

"...... during the period of September 1st, 2007 to August 26th, 2010 (the actual contact was dated to April 22nd, 2008)." The rest of the letter is following cic instructions.

Also, is it okay to just state the start month (not the exact day)?
Thanks a lot!
