Hi guys,

My work experience is a bit confusing so please bear with me. I should mention that I am currently in Canada on a PGWP.

January 2008 to January 2010 - Was an admin assistant for a department in my home university while still a full time student. I worked for about 30 hours a week on a one year renewable contract. I have no evidence of payment for 2008 to 2009 but I have bank statements for 2009 to 2010 although salaries were delayed as is normal in third world countries so I was paid lump sum in 2011 with my the name of the institution (employer) written in the bank narration.

October 2013 to August 2014 - No longer a student but worked from October to August in a professional occupation in my home country. I have bank statements showing monthly payments as salary as well as name of employer but getting a letter may be a herculean task but is doable. I worked 60 hours a week (8am to 6:30pm - no kidding!)

September 2014 I moved to Canada as a student and started working part time (20 hrs a week) as a research assistant for an NGO in May 2016 till December 2016. I worked as an employee but was labelled an independent contractor which I had no issues with since I needed the money.

January 2017, continued working for the same NGO in the same position but this time as an employee not independent contractor.

I need advice on which work experience I can use to qualify for express entry and how many years of experience I can claim.Am I eligible for FSW or CEC? For CEC I know I am not eligibe right now but when can I be eligible?

Thanks.

All your work experience during studies cannot be counted.

In order to qualify for FSW you need at least one year of continuous full-time skilled work experience.

For CEC - self employment does not count.

For CEC - you need one year of skilled work experience (does not have to be continuous)

Thanks. So you mean work experience gained while studying full time in my home country does not count for FSW?

Outside of Canada it counts.

Work experience during studies in Canada does not count.
