I am working in the same company for the last 7 years. In the first 5 years i was in a supervisory position and 6th year i got promoted to manager level.

In the work experience column can i write it as Manager for last 7 years?

or do i have to split it like

Supervisor for 5 years for this period
Manager for 2 years for the balance period.

Ideally you have to split it, that is how I have seen in most answers, and that is what is mentioned and also here (copied text: should indicate all positions held while employed at the company) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/express/intake-complete.asp

Unfortunately I noticed this later, and I am going without details of each position.

I read somewhere that you have to be in the same occupation for last 6 years or something. Is it true?

No you don't have to be in a same occupation. 5 Years of supervisor experience can be show in same period. However, for managers the NOC will be different and will need a separate experience.

This is what I believe but you should wait for other valuable inputs as well.

Not true - you need not be in the same occupation for 6 years. You should split the experience and apply the correct NOC. Make sure your work experience letter reflects both the job descriptions based on the NOC if they are different. In some case, the NOC will remain the same since promotion may not mean additional duties. Check what is applicable in your case.

Does it even matter if you have more than 3 years of work experience. You only get points for upto 3 years. So Why would you have to be in one NOC for 6 years?

It is important for FSW eligibility - see this link - you get maximum points for 6 years work experience. You need to get 67 or more under FSW to even enter into the pool.

This is highest points for 6 years not mandatory. There are many applicants having more than 67 points even with 1 or 2 Years.
