Hi all,

Newbie here :D I'm a bit confused of how to calculate my work experience. I plan to apply with NOC #1211

- 1997-2007 working as administration staff (relevant to my bachelor degree in Management)
- 2010-2011 working as secretary (still relevant to my bachelor degree somehow, or not?)
- 2007-now working as freelance translator (not relevant to my bachelor degree, so I guess I should scratched it off from my work experience right?)

For 'work experience within 5 years' question: can I claim to have 1 year work experience and how should I calculate it for within 10 years question?

I'm about to attend certification exam for translation in my country, would this be acceptable to be regarded as relevant qualification?

TIA.

Firstly, for Express Entry, your work experience does not need to be relevant to your education. But it does need to be in a NOC that is skill level A, B, or O.

Was this work experience in Canada ?
If so, you can only use experience that you gained within the past 3 years.
Self-employed work experience (freelancing) is not acceptable for Canadian work experience.

If it was not in Canada, you can claim points for all work experience that took place within the past 10 years.
So for your first job, only the experience from September 2006-2007 in acceptable.
What is the NOC for your second job ? I couldn't find Secretary on the NOC list. Is the NOC skill level A, B, or O ? If not, this experience does not count.

Hi Istari,

Thanks for your reply. It's for EE indeed and not performed in Canada. I thought the experience would be verified against the qualification in the next phase and deemed ineligible if both are not relevant.

Best,

No, not the case. Your education and experience do not have to be related for EE (although they do for some PNPs).
