Dear Canada Visa Forum Community,

I am posting this to receive any and all advice that pertains to my work experience situation. I currently have 456 points on my EE profile: my first job was at a university for 10 months, then I moved to another company for 1 year, and I am currently employed by a different company and by this July I would have completed an additional year at this company.

I am curious, however, as to whether my first job could be counted as a full year instead of 10 months. I was working as a Teaching Assistant, so my contract was from August 1, 2016 to May 31, 2017. My paycheck was posted until May, but my insurance benefits lasted throughout June and July 2017. In this kind of situation, could I register my profile stating that my position lasted from August 2016 to July 2017 and obtain credit for one full year? Or would this be counted as 10 months (and therefore would not add any additional points to my profile)? As I would obtain an additional 25 points for three years of experience, I would obviously love to receive credit for my first job, but I would not want to report anything false on my profile.

I look forward to hearing from your thoughts.

@dan_and Thank you so much for your response.

The first job was from August 1, 2016 to May 31, 2017 in the US with the NOC code 4012.
The second job was from September 7, 2017 to September 11, 2018 in the US with the NOC code 5212.
The final job is from August 5, 2019 to the present, in the US with the NOC code 5212.

I was not a full-time student during any of these positions. I look forward to your thoughts!

@dan_and My bad, the last job should be from August 5, 2019 to the present. There was a gap between the second job and the final job, during which I completed my MA. All jobs were full time.

@dan_and Many thanks for your reply, Dan! This is super helpful. The current job that I have is on a fellowship-basis, so I will be keeping it until July 2020. I assume that with this in mind, I will have a total of 2 years and 10 months of experience. Do you know how this would translate into the CRS? I assume it would not qualify for the extra 25 points still?

On that note, just asking because you seem to be an expert on EE cases: I am entering a PhD program from September 2020 in the US after the current fellowship ends. Is there any room for extra points for this qualification?
