Hi everybody,
My boyfriend is on a refugee claim in Canada since October last year. He decided he wants to withdraw his claim, and has informed his lawyer that he wants to leave the country.
The thing is, before we go home together, we want to travel abroad. Is it possible for him to get his passport here, in Toronto, and then travel before going home. We have no intention to come back to Canada.
I'm asking this because I know that the usual way is putting a person on a plane, and they get their passport when they arrive to their home country.
His lawyer told him that its possible to get his passport back, with a date until when he has to leave the country.
Now I don't know what to believe, I want to start planning our trip, but I can't until I know what will happen with his passport.
Any similar experiences anybody?

1. CBSA is unlikely to return his passport until he departs Canada. They don't really care where he is going outside Canada, as long as he has the required visa for his country of destination. But if his removal order turns into a deportation order, then he will be sent to his country of citizenship.
