Winter 2013 VISA Application Help, CHC Islamabad

I received my offer letter from University of Ottawa for Masters of Engineering/Engineering Management, Winter 2013 last week. I am now waiting for the official documents to arrive by mail. In the meantime, I wanted to gather as much information as possible about the VISA process. I'm hoping to inshaAllah apply for the VISA by the end of August 2012.

I have tons of questions and will really like to contact some of the more seasoned members of this forum for help. I'd be really grateful for your advice.

My offer letter states that the average one year expenses at uOttawa are 37000 CAD (tuition, living, all inclusive). There is no break up of the fees. It also says that the course duration is 2 years. Now how much funds am I required to show the Visa Officer? Do I need to pay semester fees before applying for the VISA?

Also if possible, can anyone list the documents that need to be submitted with the application and those that should be brought along to the interview? The list on the CHC website is too generic. I was hoping to find a list of specific documents for Pakistani applicants.

You have to show funds equal to or more than
First Year Tuition + 12000 C$ for living + 3000 C$ for traveling
OR
You can go with your offer letter expenses i.e. 37000 CAD.


Paying fees in advance is optional not compulsory

Thanks Momi! So I only need to show tuition for a year only? I have received an offer letter by email, will that be okay to submit for the VISA? Or should I wait for the hard copy to arrive by postal mail? Because that can take a few weeks.

Also I noticed that your interview was waived. How is that possible? Why does the VO waive off conditions for some applicants?

You have got time so wait for the Offer letter to come and apply with original letter.
OR
You can ask some courier service to pickup letter for you, if you want to apply early

I have never seen any one interviewed for study permit in Pakistan, the cases are very rare......

"• A personal study plan describing your proposed program of study as it relates to your academic, technical or vocational background."?

It is an optional document but as there is no interview and if you want to convey any thing to VO your study plan, your proposed study, What benefit you will get from proposed study or any ambiguity then you will write a SOP and add it to your application............

What is the process to get police clearance? Do we go to any police station or are there specific offices? I'm in Islamabad so if anyone has details please help me out.

Also If possible I'd like to get in touch with someone who has recently received the visa and is in Pakistan. A discussion over the phone, maybe?
