Do you think they will ask for the passport to be stamped even when you don't need a visa to enter Canada? My previous experience (with student authorization) has been that they never placed an actual visa in my passport, just gave me the Student Authorization paper once I arrived in Canada.

I wouldn't worry needlessly, immigration is very efficent. If they want something done you will be advised.
