Hi All,

I'm wondering if the CIC will take longer to process my application to sponsor my wife because we both live together in the USA.
I'm not sure how we determine if we applied "outland" or not...I'm assuming we did as we applied from outside Canada, but I'm just
curious about whether they are holding my app to sponsor up because we are together in the US.

I see people getting approved in late March and yet we haven't heard anything. Even though our application pkg was rec'd by the CIC on 3/13.

Any thoughts? Besides the Ottawa pilot, why are they jumping around so much within March and Feb? I would have thought it was first rec'd, first processed....with the exception of those sent to the pilot office of course.

Thank You
A

Hey DoubleA,

it's difficult to know what is going on with CIC, and they are jumping around from march to february and back! from waht I can read on the different threads, it looks like february applicants were kept in Mississauga, and march were forwarded to Ottawa as Mississauga is overwhelmed. But there is no confirmation from CIC, it's pure guess work based on where people have been receiving news from.

As it is now - some february applicants are still waiting for sponsorship approval, while some applicants in march have already been approved, and got the email or letter from CIC - Ottawa, regardless of their visa office - I am talking about the stage 1 here, for all applicants, not related to the closure of Buffalo etc.

For your case - you probably applied outland, if you sent your application to Mississauga, using the outland application kit. it is normal for now that you haven't heard anything from them. The "latest" approval i have seen on the different threads is an application received on the 15th of march, ( with somebody getting an AOR for end of March, but no approval yet) so as yours has been received on the 13th march, you are still within the "normal processing time". CIC website says they are working on applications received on the 27th of February, and as long as the date has not passed your "received date", there is not much point in calling them, as they will automatically tell you to call back a bit later... you can check which date they are working on at this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp it's updated every thursday more or less.

the fact that you both live in the US doesn't play a role. Most applicants through the outland process live outside of canada, so it is a normal case. CIC has been quite inconsistent in handling applications, it is normally on a "first received, first processed", but some cases take longer to approve, and as explained, some applications are in Ottawa for now.

So in your case - nothing to worry about. You will probably (fingers crossed) hear soon, next week maybe?, from CIC, either with an AOR ( acknowledgement of receipt) confirming that they have received and opened your application, or directly approval...

best of luck with the waiting, I hope it clarifies a bit.

Hey DoubleA,

I forgot to mention - you can stay outside of Canada if the sponsor is Canadian. If the sponsor is PR, then she/he MUST be in Canada for the whole time, otherwise your application will be refused. Other than that - you should be fine!
best,
