We just sent off our applications to Missisauga. My wife is in japan, and im back home in Canada. She will be coming under a visitors visa now as we wait for her application to get processed. Now while shes here she obviously cant work or do much other than explore and stay at the house as a visitor. But theres a school she wants to go to in Vancouver. So the question is can she apply for a student visa fore this school while waiting for PR status? The school itself which deals with alot of foreigners coming in, doesnt actually know the answer to this question. Has anyone tried this/done this or know of the answer?

As always, any advice is greatly appreciated. Just wondering if this will also hurt the PR application or something.

She can apply for a student visa. It doesn't affect the application, it's a separate process, so no problem. THe only thing you might want to consider is that she will have to pay international fees, while if she goes to school after she gets her PR, it will be less expensive. Just wanted to add that information.
It seems that Manilla (for Japanese applications) is quite a fast VO, so you might be done in 6 to 7 months if you are lucky.
GOod luck - with the process, and the decisions!

Hey Dennis,

I am not sure if you are aware of the "work holiday visa" possibility - it's quite a good one, and it allows for Japanese to come to Canada.
Here is the link http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/japan-japon/experience_canada_experience/index.aspx?view=d

I thought i would just mention that - as looking at the website there are still some places left for Japanese citizen, so if your wife fits into the criteria, it's also a way to start..

Good luck,
Sweden

Thanks Sweden, seems like youve been very helpful for all of my posts and concerns. Thank you again for taking some time to help me out!

Yes im aware of working holliday visas and all. just wondered if a student visa would be ok aswell in this case. A possible scenario is that she comes here first as a visitor and then applies for the student visa, providing she can be approved for that before her visitors time is up, and then she could transfer from visitor to student, all while waiting for PR status. Does this seem realistic in your opinion?

Hey Dennis,

I'm not familiar with Student visa, and how to get them but your wife can certainly come on a tourist visa, and stay up to 6 months until she has another status... if everything else fails, she can either go to the US and re-enter and be given a 6 months visa, or ask for an extension of her visitor visa (and until she gets the answer, she would be allowed to stay). Some cases from Japan got approved really fast, and you would be going through Manilla, so hopefully you won't be needing that.
Good luck,
Sweden
