wife and son legel stay in Canada?

I just started my master degree in University of Alberta this Jan., and my wife and 4 year old son got their visitor visa and willing to come to stay with me on May.

Since the visitor visa holder can only stay in Canada for the maximum of 6 months, how could they stay here as long as I will stay in Canada?

if ur wife and son have marriage certificate and birth certificate along with copies of ur study permit/visa then at POE they can ask for a visitors permit for the duration of ur studies(most likely IO will issues visitors permit for duration of ur studies but just in case it is better to ask).My wife got 2 years visitors permit at POE and not six months.
