Why do they ask you to submit your passport for CoPR after PPR?

My wife & I got our PPR email a few days ago. I'm in Canada and she is outside of Canada.

We replied to their email with our information and they only sent an online confirmation portal link for me. I promptly got my COPR.

My wife is in the middle of traveling to Canada (we already had plans & tickets, she will be here next week). She has a valid visitor visa. She needs her passport to travel.

Why do they request my wife to submit her passport to the VAC to get her COPR? Do they stamp something on her passport?

Yes, foreign nationals need a PR Visa (1 use) in order to be able to come to Canada and finalize the landing procedure.
Once your application is approved (received CoPR) all other permits and TRVs are not longer valid.
