Hi all,

Newbie here. I'm a foreign worker here in Canada and will soon reach my 1 year of experience. I'm also processing my papers for the PR under CEC or FSW.

Please help me understand the job offer requirement. If I apply through the FSW class, I need to find a permanent job offer from an employer and the employer would need to provide an LMIA.

But how realistic is this? Why would any employer commit to hiring me and spend for an LMIA if they have to wait for at least 6 months before they can actually hire me?

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding something here. Even if I already have 1 year Canadian experience for skilled profession but potential employers will find out that they have to wait for 6 months (estimated duration of PR application) before they can actually hire me. Is that really how it works? Will be I able to find an employer who is willing to wait for me while I process my application?

Thanks!

You are right, it's very doubtful any employer will be willing to go through the financial expense and long time required to hire you. Employers would only be willing to do this for a senior management hire and for a very specialized role at that. It's much cheaper for employers to just hire someone who is already legally able to work in Canada. You should consider the Canadian Experience Class route instead, check the guidelines at this link, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/econ/cec/

Thank you for your reply, yes, I will just wait for my 1 year and explore the CEC path; with the recent changes in the points system I hope I will have a greater chance of qualifying even without a job offer.
