Sorry if this is a question that's asked a lot. My boyfriend is a US citizen and I am a Canadian citizen. We've been going back and forth but travel costs are adding up for us. He is able to work remotely, but I am not, so he wants to come spend the majority of his time in Canada (move in with me). I am aware that typically the limit is 6 months for a "visit" in Canada, and that he may not even be granted those 6 months once we arrive at the border. He does not really plan to work here, but he could if he had a Visa (I own my own company, and he could work for me). We've considered getting him a work Visa but heard its a long process and he's not a "skilled worker" (I own a car dealership, the skills as a car sales person are not in demand for a non-canadian citizen). What's our best option here? Will they allow him for 6 months without any Visas? How would he be allowed to stay longer? The government website is so confusing and there are so many different Visas, just trying to figure out the best and easiest way for him to "move" here. We've discussed simply getting married and are planning for it, but are thinking we're still about a year out from being ready, and don't want to rush it just for a Visa.

Follow-up question for us to consider: what happens to our citizenship status when we get married? Do we both become citizens of both countries or do we have to pick citizenship in only one country? (ie. would either of us have to give up our home country citizenship?).

Thanks in advance to anyone who could give us some insight!
