Hi All, I would appreciate if someone can advise which university is better in terms of quality education, job prospects after studies, immigration and living expenses.

If we compare tuition fee, MUN is way cheaper than UNB but I came to know that there are no jobs in that area and MBA is also not of good standard. But then what about UNB? How's the job market, can I get part time job?

Any MBA program is very demanding and you are unlikely to have much free time for a part-time job. Perhaps you will be able to work maybe 5 hours a week but 20 hours doesn't seem realistic. You will have similar job prospects in both cities. You would be likely working for minimum wage. Cost of living is quite low for both compared to larger Canadian cities. I think the cost of living will be lower at UNB. Would probably go for UNB but neither are considered top tier MBA programs so both would get the likely get the same reaction from a prospective employer.

Thanks a lot for your response. What do you mean by the employer’s reaction? Will they not consider a prominent education at all?

An employer in Canada will usually prefer hiring an MBA graduate from one of the better known and top tier MBA programs if they have the option. MBA programs at schools like U of T, York, Western, Queens will have companies try to recruit students in their final year. Although there is not an official ranking of schools and programs there are definitely those that are considered top programs. The price also reflects how competitive it is to enter the program. It all depends on what you want to do with your MBA. If you want to work internationally or in finance or something similar many people will be unaware of the smaller MBA programs in the Maritimes. It is still an MBA and definitely not the worst programs in Canada. Like in the US there are the big well known universities like the Iveys or well respected state schools but there are plenty of other less well known schools.

Thanks a lot and really appreciate your detailed answer. What about people with good bit of experience an industry plus a kind of MBA from one of the low tier universities, what are the chances of securing a place in finance.

Obviously it will be possible but much harder especially if your goal is to be in Toronto. Doesn't help that the industry is going through a transformation.

And which are the best cities to search finance related jobs like investment banking, stock trading, portfolio management, brokerage etc.

Toronto. Although there is individual portfolio management in every city.
