Hi, I used to have a study permit for my undergrad study in Canada, now I am holding a post-graduation work permit which will expire in June. I recently got admitted to a Canadian graduate school, so I'd like to apply for a study permit. Does anyone know which box or boxes I should choose for the IMM5709e form?
1) apply for a study permit for the first time or extend my study permit
2) restore my status as a student
3) get a new temporary resident permit (for inadmissible applicants only)

Many thanks!

The first one.

And by the way, you do know that if you take another course it will not be eligible for a pgwp, right?

Thanks for helping out. I guess the definition of "apply for the first time" doesn't mean "first time in your life", it means a NEW permit. Is that right?

Yes, I understand that pgwp is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I'm waiting for my PR to be approved, which is around September / October. So I need the study permit to fill the June - October blank.

I see...

Why don't you apply for a bowp to fill the gap and take the course when you got your pr? It will save you a lot of money.

Just saying, that's what I would do.

Also, forgive me if I am wrong, your user name indicate that you are from China, right? I am also from China...

Yes I'm from China, nice to meet you. The University requires a study permit so that's why.

Okay, glad to see that. But what I mean is that if the sole purpose for applying forthe study permit is to fill the gap, then why not apply for a bowp or even just a visitor record. These will save you thousands of dollars of international students tuition fee.

The gap is from June to October, the school starts in September, so I need a study permit for that. Besides, once the PR status is approved, the difference of the tuition between an international student and domestic student will be refunded
