Where to stay Toronto - new immigrant ?

Dear

I will be with spouse and 1 small kid - 3 years

I need
1. Short term - 2-3 months - 1 bedroom flat in basement or otherwise whatever is cheaper
2. walking distance to cheap supermarket, public transport and local area hospital because my wife will be near her date

Should i find something in Missisuaga ? if yes near which street etc ?

Or should i be in City of toronto, near which street etc ? Someone recommended Young street - what benefits do i get from staying in the city apart from being close to SIN and OHIP offices ?
