When you call CIC offices what do they tell you about RQ processing times?

When hearing something unusual from Call Centre agents which seems to deviate from the known standards, or established scripts, it's good to:flybest1 said:
1. verify that you have their name and agent number.
2. ask what information their statement is based on. Their personal sense of things or is this info known to all call centre agents? Or published somewhere?

when you say name - you mean first name only yes ? I dont think they release last name too ?
AGENT NUMBER ? - wow...I didnt know one could ask them for that info ? More importantly, have you or anyone you know asked an agent their agent number and actually received that info from them?

When I called last week with a question about renewing my PR card, the agent gave me her first name and a 4 digit number. I thanked her and told her I was surprised because no one ever gave me their number before. "Julie" said that she thought it was normal protocol, "because that's how things work here". Maybe it was just a fluke, but I think it makes sense to get a name at least to suggest some level of accountability for the information provided.

Not that current processing timelines should be regarded as accurate predictions for the future. I imagine that there is a glut of PR renewals right now from post-OB407 RQ recipients and others caught in the record citizenship delays. I would not be surprised if the PR card timeline continued to lengthen.

AFIK, and trust me I know better than those CIC agents, you cannot go in person to Sydney Nova Scotia to hand in your package, unless you're the delivery guy as well. And Nova Scotia is where they rest for a few weeks before taken up for processing. So mailing it out is the only option. If you mail it through regular mail, then it goes to a PO box versus if you use a registered mail then a CIC employee will have to sign and receive it which will be your proof of delivery. If in PO box God only knows how long it stays in there. But you don't have to worry about the PR renewals as the applications get processed within 4 months of period of time, provided your applications don't have any hitches. Hope this helps.

FYI, I got a signature at the PO Box (I was able to see the delivery certificate online) since I used Xpresspost. (Thanks for the signature, Mike K!) I'm not sure how it worked, but I think it's fine to use the PO Box option as long as you send your packet via an option that provides a tracking number.
