Theorically a PR card can be renewed 9 months before its expiry date. But anyone tried it out and really had two valid PR card in hand? Or the old one is legally void after the new card has been issued?

So, what's the exact date? The card was given two dates (issue and valid until) and sent to made. How to set up this date? Applicant generally can only receive it weeks later. If in system the old card should be invalid, how about during this "NOT-receiving-new-card period" if applicant is doing border crossing? Looks like it's only legally invalid, but actually you still can use both (system pass)?

Are you actually facing this situation right now or just planning for an improbably scenario?
If 'live' - use the card you have until you receive the new one. Remember, your PR status is unchanged anyway - the only issue is/will be if somehow IRCC cancels the card and advises all the airlines that it's not valid.
And fraknly, I don't think they're that organized. (Or if they are, have simply put a staggered cancellation date)
I just wonder how it works, as people can renew PR card so early. To avoid this awkward situation, is that possible IRCC just held the application until it close to the expiry date of the old card, if applicant has no urgent reason? 9 month ahead, I don't see any urgent reason though
