Hi,

I have closed work permit that is due to expiry January 14th 2016. Unfortunately I was laid off so I can't work with my closed work permit. I applied to CEC and already got my AOR. I am wondering when is the good time too apply for BOWP because of the 4 months rule. Should I apply earliest September 14th 2015 or I can apply 1-2 months before that date so when officer process it my visa visa will be within 4 months? So the question is basically should my visa be within 4 months on the day of processing or on the day of applying for BOWP? Please help, this is very important to me.

If you have been laid off and can show a good reason via an explanation letter why you should be granted a BOWP you might be able to get one. I know of people who have had 8 months left on their WP and who were laid off and had family commitments and responsibilities given a BOWP.

I tried that option. Applied 3 months ago through explanation letter. It was laid off not due to my fault. But still got refusal today :( There is pretty big demand of the job I do currently in Canada but still it didn't help. Maybe now they just strictly follow the rules or it depends of the officer. Thinking to giving it another try now as you say you know ppl that still got it.
