Hi,
I hope someone can tell me when we entered common law relationship. I know it's a year after you move in together (although I see people saying it's the day you move in together) but our timeline is a bit complicated, although not uncommon I would think.

November 2012-June 2013 we lived together in my house
July 2013-November 2013 he was on "holiday" back home of which I visited him one month.
mid November 2013 - mid December 2013 we lived together in my house
December 2013-February 2014 we traveled together.
March 2014-June 2015 we lived together in my house

The whole time he was technically registered at my house.
Thanks in advance

You were separated too long during the July 2013 to November 2013 period. You can start counting from mid November 2013.

thank you for your fast reply. So you would say we entered November 2014? It still counts as living together when we traveled together? In the period of July - November 2013 we were separated 1,5 month at the longest. I do agree I wouldn't count that for the common law though

Anything above a three week break is generally considered a break in continuous common law. So yes - a month and a half apart will certainly be seen as a break and reset the clock. You can count the period you traveled together provided you can provide hard proof you were together during this time through hotel receipts, etc.

Thank you very much for this information. We mainly have plane tickets and pictures, we were backpacking so no hotel reservations (and the couple we had was only on my name since I booked them), I would think that's proof? I will provide a time line in the section where we provide proof of common law. Even if the count starts after the travel, we've lived together for over a year so it's just a matter how to fill in the forms, not if we're eligible to begin with.

I would start it at mid-November 2013 as well. They might not accept your proof for the period you were traveling together (include it anyway), but it shouldn't matter since you have more than a year together after that.

Thanks for the second opinion, very much appreciated. So did we enter the common law relationship November 2014 or does it start when with start at the start of the period of a year living together? I thought after the year but I also hear people stating the day the started living together.

You entered into your C-L relationship one year after you started living together.
