Hi all!
My husband and I started dating Feb 2014. He moved to Canada January 2016 at which point we began living together. March 2017 we got married.
When answering the question in IMMI 5332 regarding our relationship, do I mention when we started dating as start of conjugal relationship?

Question:
How long have you been cohabiting? Give the periods you have been living together after your conjugal relationship started?

There's a definition of what they want in the very next line:

Conjugal relationship means a committed and mutually interdependent relationship of some permanence where a couple has combined their affairs to the extent possible (marriage-like).

You probably had not combined your affairs to the extent possible (marriage-like) when you started dating?

are you sure you were conjugal? That phrase is only used in serious circumstances. Such as you are gay, and your husbands country doesn't allow gay relationships, hence why you couldn't be together. If it was just because of long distance or a normal circumstance, it wouldn't be conjugal.

You're thinking of a conjugal application. Separately from that, several of the forms ask for the starting date of your conjugal relationship, or the length of your conjugal relationship. In that sense, 'conjugal relationship' refers to your romantic, sexual, and financial entanglement together, it's used as a tool to divide friends, dating, spousal applicants, etc. You're talking about a conjugal application, when you file an application based on the strength of your conjugal relationship, because the other more legal tools don't exist (because of the specific circumstances you note).

Thanks all! All helpful - I was pretty sure for us it was marriage but was confused with their definition /conjugal application definition etc.
Thank you:)
