A recent thread about timelines make me wonder how long AFTER you married did you apply? My fiancee and I would like to apply within a few days or weeks of getting married but are concerned that it might look strange and rushed. In my travels throught this forum I see some people with a few months to a few years so does waiting longer have any bearing?

How long did you wait after getting married to apply?
Was there a positive result?
Did the IO question you about it if you interviewed?

Thanks!

We took a year and a handful of days from our wedding date to submit our application. Our interview was waved. :)

Married Dec 2009
Applied Oct 2010
PPR received Jan 2011

I will be marrying my fiance in april and applying as soon as we have receieved out marriage cert (which i'm sure in Banff isn't as long as some places) and I'm not partcularly worried about it being seen as rushed. Surely the person looking through your application will realise that as soon as couples are married they want to be together as soon as possible.

I think as long as you have enough evidence to prove your relationship is genuine then it wouldn't matter whether you applied after 3 years of being married or 3 days.

Everyones case is different and they will obviously realise this

Married June 2010, applying Feb 2011, so about 7 months after marrying. Took us this long as we had NO idea what the process involved, and I spent two months reading and researching before we started doing anything.

The first thing we had to do was apply for my FBI certificate, as I lived in the US for a year and a half, and that took 7 weeks to come through. Meanwhile, we also had to gather various bits and pieces of evidence, which took all this time, plus we had to save up the various fees. Then my father-in-law passed away, and that delayed us by another month or so as my husband had to deal with that. So we're finally ready. :D

Each case is different, the lapse between marriage and application will be considered in each case according to the circumstances.

Married September 2010
Applied December 2010

It takes most people a good few months to put togther a good application. Do your research, I took 2 to 3 months putting mine together and I am finding after this forum, there is serious areas where I could have made it stronger and more convincing. It's not the length of time important, it's the strength of your application they will care about.

we got married in May 2010 and applied in july 2010. we had known each other for 5 yrs

We got married on May 2010 and we send our application on October 2010 We had to learn about the procedure first and gather all the documents.

I got married in November 2010 and applied by February 2011. And anyways its going to take at least 3-4mth minimum for most people I guess, to get hold of all document and evidence together and file in. but as long as you can provide them with all the documents and necessary details to proof your relationship is genuine then thats what matters to the immigration officers. I think its better to do it asap so you guys can be together ;D!!
