Currently I am residing in Canada on a visitor status. I have filed an application for PR Inside Canada spousal sponsorship (my spouse is Canadian PR) beginning Nov 2016.

I would like to shortly leave Canada to see my family abroad. I know there is a risk of being denied re-entry but I am wondering if I want to go what would be the best option:

Facts:
  • PR application + OWP application sent beginning November
I am from a Visa Exempt country
My visitor status will expire 6 March 2017

So my options:
  • Leaving and coming back before 6 March on my still valid visitor status
Waiting for my OWP and then go abroad
    Waiting for AIP
Waiting for whole process to finish

And would it be wise to extend visitor status while not having a OWP received yet?

What would you reckon is the best strategy, given you're accepting the risk?

Thank you so much

  • Once you leave, your visitor status is completely gone so the March 6 date will be irrelevant. You would be re-applying for visitor status upon your next entry.

If you're from a visa-exempt country and are gone for a short time, odds are you'll be allowed re-entry no problem. Of course the risk of being denied entry, although very small, is always there.

With OWP in hand it would be much safer.

thank you, I guess too better to wait till OWP comes in if case I want to go.

People said already that the burden of the boredom of awaiting to be able to work is not to be underestimated, and I can certainly agree after doing 4 months almost nothing.
