Hello, we are a couple, one a Canadian and one a Chinese citizen, both living in Korea and have no plans in the near future to move to Canada. However, because of family situations, etc. the ceremony will be in Canada. Therefore, we need to apply for a visa, and are not looking for a sponsorship.

The Canadian citizen is finishing a Masters thesis in South Korea with plans for employment in Korea. The Chinese citizen is employed at a reputable company in South Korea, with a Master of Business degree, also from a reputable school in South Korea. We (believe we) have ample proof that both parties will return to Korea (together) to return to their daily lives after the wedding ceremony.

In the visa application we have attached:
1. Letter of Invitation with Canadian citizen's family contact information, information about the priest who will marry us, etc.
2. Around 7-10 photos of our time together in the past three years
3. Proof of employment of the Chinese citizen
4. Proof of funds in South Korean bank

My questions summarized:
i) Are we missing anything else in the application?
ii) And should we be applying for a tourist visa?
iii) For the Chinese citizen's parents' visa application, we intend to attach all the above information, with proof of parental relationship (ie. Birth certification), plus their personal financial information as well. Will that be sufficient for them to acquire a visa to attend the wedding?

Essentially all details of the wedding have been figured out but this visa business really just goes over the top of my head. Any help would be appreciated.

There is not any other visas for your fiance except TRV (Temporary resident visa= tourist=visitor visa)

The Canadian citizen is finishing a Masters thesis in South Korea
Are you going to marry before or after graduation? Not convocation but after finishing the program?

There are very slim chances that your fiance gets TRV. But you could try. Write a letter of explanation about everything, get a letter from your parents in Canada about how they are looking forward to wedding and meeting their in-laws, ask for a short - 3-4 weeks period, describe your honey moon trip (if you plan any), or just itinerary of your stay in Canada after or before wedding.

Before the program is finished.

It's unfortunate to hear that the chances are slim and we'd really rather not lie about the purpose of the trip. The planned period is a mere 10 days for the Chinese citizen so I'm not sure if there are even shorter periods for TRV.

We have been trying to get our marriage documents in Korea, which is a much faster process than in Canada (1 day compared to two hehe -> no ceremony/marriage commissioner required). Unfortunately the Chinese embassy has been less than helpful for international marriages. If we were to be able to get those documents, do you think the chances of a TRV will be much higher? For the parents in China as well? If any of the three are unable to attend we would have to cancel the ceremony :'(
