Hi All,

I am planning to apply for Canadian PR, but Consultancy which i consulted said I am not eligible for it.
Age 27
IELTS score 7
Work ex 2 yrs
I completed 8 months diploma from Canada (Was on student Visa)

Consultancy is saying I am short of 4 points, current points are 63.
Consultancy asked me to again write IELTS and get 7.5 in all tests, but what if I haven't got 7.5 band in all tests.??

My questions are:
1. Do you think I should write IELTS again to get 7.5 and will it improve my points and after that what are the chances that I will be eligible??
2. Next thing they suggested is to try and get job offer from Canada, which is again very difficult.??
3. Do you think is there any other way I can apply for the PR?? what about Province immigration program??

Please answer my above queries.

I'm not sure how you're calculating your points; I've tried inputting your information, and the highest score I manage to get for you is 50 points.

Firstly, is the 8-month diploma your only education (aside from high school, which I assume you've completed) ? Do you have a Bachelor's degree from your home country or anything ?

Secondly, I'm not sure why the consultancy is asking you to score 7.5 in your IELTS, because increasing to 7.5 in every band will only gain you 1 extra point.

I still don't understand how your points are being calculated.

English - 22 points:
CLB 9, 9, 9, 7

Education - 21 points
Bachelor's degree

Experience - 11 points
2 years

Age - 12 points
27 years old

22 + 21 + 11 + 12 = 66

Minor correction - the OP will get 22 points for education (two or more degrees..) as he has completed Bachelors and a Diploma. That way it will make him eligible as it will give him 67 points. 22 points has been arrived assuming that ECA considers his Bachelors equivalent to Canadian Bachelors.

canboy17 First step is to check your eligibility. Use this link to check your eligibility http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/ee-start.asp

If you are eligible, get ECA down for your foreign Bacehlors. Use this tool to calculate your CRS score http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

IELTS plays a major role in boosting your CRS score. If you can get 8777 (CLB 9), it will improve your CRS score considerably. Use the above calculator to check how a slight variation in IELTS impacts CRS score.

To know the factors that help in contributing towards FSW 67/100 points check this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp

All the best!

But he says that his diploma was only 8 months. I thought CIC specified that it had to be at least 1 year.

I don't think the 8 month study would count. It should be at least a year.

For your peace of mind, why don't you just create an Express Entry profile and fill in the details as you suggested? That will give you the three digit CRS.
Some immigration agents, sadly, just pretend to know a lot and charge a hefty price. Decades ago, they would have been most helpful but in this day and age where everything is in the internet, you are better off doing your visa requirements yourself :)

He can't create an EE profile if he isn't eligible. And if the 8 months of study don't count, then he isn't eligible.
