This is a term that's prevailing the forum, and I wonder what it really is. Can someone quickly explain if it doesn't cost you too much time? Thanks!

Upfront medical is doing Medical without waiting for request from CIC.
All you need is take your passport to doctor and he will upload the results before CIC ask it.

Oh OK thanks. But I believe timing is very important, isn't it? Apparently no one wants to submit a medical result and have it expire, correct?

Medical report have one year validity.

i also would like to add that if you intend to do upfront medical you need to make sure that you have a strong application otherwise it will be a waste of money.
be aware that some doctors do not do upfront medical and i ask for CIC request because it is done online now and the form you will get from CIC contains a barcode which will get scanned by the doctor,if you find a doctor willing to make sure you provide them with your file number and UCI along with the category under which you have applied.

good luck.

And another thing. The upfront medicals don't speed up the process. It's always better to wait until you get the request from CIC.

Out of curiosity why is that?

Two "soft" reasons not to do medical a upfront:

1- Receiveing medical request is generally a good indicator that eligibility has passed (or recommended passed). Basically a means to track status.

2- Validity of Medical is one year. Let's say you do it 6 months before a decision is made on your application. This could effectively limit your opportunity to land to 6 months after decision is made.

There are of course other ways to track application (GCMS) and upfront med can be arranged so it leaves ample time for landing.

There were many cases (applicants from this forum) when the CIC was not able to locate the medical results (additional delay).
