Hi guys,

I want to ask what is the most recommended city in Ontario for a single 32 year old immigrant to start in (considering all factors, from jobs options and cost of living, to safety, whether, dating, activities and cetra)? 1 hour tops from Toronto.

I work in Israel for years in the mental health and youth field but I don’t have any official certifications. So, I do prefer to do something social in Canada, but I’m aware that It would probably be impossible for start. Unless you have any suggestions. About the activities- I’m flexible, no specific kind, as long as I can make new friends.

Thanks.

Focus on where you can get a job. Depends on your budget. GTA, Ottawa, Kitchener/Waterloo, kingston, London

That’s The the thing, I have no idea yet, I’ll arrive on a working holiday visa and I’ll just start to look for jobs. I’m assuming it’ll be low paying jobs because I can’t work in my profession.

Ontario is expensive so best thing is to pick a city, research job opportunities/pay, and try and find housing. The rental market in Ontario is almost non existent and expensive.

I would recommend avoiding the GTA. Renting is very expensive and inventory is very low. Look into places like London, Oshawa, North Bay, etc.

If you don’t have a car, research cities with public transportation.

I don't have a car and It's crucial for me to be close enough to Toronto, so I've googled and found this cities:

Burlington
Oakville
Waterloo
Brampton
Vaughan
Markham
Richmond hill

Can one of them fit?

So really you're not aiming for Ontario but for Toronto specifically. That's a really big difference.

Waterloo is too far for a regular commute. I would say the same for Burlington.

For the rest, I would say it depends where you are living in those locations. You would want to be very close to the GO Train if you are making regular trips to Toronto and don't have a car. Expect high rents / low availability in all of these locations. They are basically extensions of Toronto.

So you want to be in the GTA. As said close to GO stations. Oakville is expensive. Vaughn, Markham and Richmond Hill are suburbs (may not have rentals) so may need to take bus to a GO station or subway. Rent is very high in any of these areas.

Thanks, that sucks. So, what would you recommend me to do? I personally would live in BC but the prices are also high and I understand that the medical system in Ontario is way better. In Alberta I understand there's not as many job opportunities, there's more crime and the medical system is not good. Don't know what to do...

I would not say that the medical system is good in Ontario. 25% of the populations doesn’t have family doctor in Ontario. Where are you getting your information about medicine and crime? GTA would have the highest crime rate. How does Alberta have a high crime rate? Why are you concerned about it since you have medical/travel insurance on your IEC. Most people who come on working holiday visas work in areas with high tourism.

You seem all over the place. Conduct a job search and then see were you can afford to live.

How about Quebec and Atlantic Canada?

About the medical insurance- it’s applied only for 6 months and then I need to do the local one. About the quality- articles on the internet and compression between the provinces.

About the crime and jobs - other comments from locals in a different websites.

This areas doesn’t seem to fit to me. My options are Ontario, BC or Alberta in that order.
Atlantic Canada would be top on my list but that is me.

Gave you suggestions for other Ontario cities but you seem intent on GTA. So research job opportunities and where you can live on your budget in the area that is close to bus, metro and/or GO stations. Do the same for BC and Alberta. Don’t know what you want to do for a job.
