I see many entries in this forum where a first landing is done (most cases I read are by road from USA to Canada) to complete the initial landing formalities and then after a few months do a final landing. I understand that there are some risks associated with it, with the possibility of the BSO not processing the PRC in the first landing once they come to know that we plan to return to USA and come later.

The question is- what is the benefit of doing an initial landing and coming later? Is it only because the 1 year validity might expire if you wait to complete your current job formalities in USA? Or are there any other reasons? Do we get a benefit by having the SIN and PRC before you finally land?

Seniors, please advice.

There is no benefit from doing this except for people whose PR visa is about to expire while they are still on contract or have things to complete before they can move.

You will not need the PR card for anything immediately. If you need to prove your status in Canada, you can use your landing papers and explain that your PR card hasn't arrived yet. You can get the SIN number immediately and the SIN card only takes a week or two to arrive in the mail.
