Curious on what this is... A friend of mine made an inquiry about his spousal app and was sent an email back with PROTECTED B info which included applicant and sponsor details..

"Protected" is the civilian term that corresponds to "Classified" in the military world.

There are three grades: A, B, C; roughly corresponding to military classifications of "Confidential", "Secret" and "Top Secret."

Question:
What is "protected" information?
Answer:
Information is "protected" if its disclosure could harm interests other than the "national interest."
There are three levels of protected information:

1) Protected C (extremely sensitive): applies to the very limited amount of information that, if compromised, could reasonably be expected to cause extremely grave injury outside the national interest, for example, loss of life.
2) Protected B (particularly sensitive): applies to information that, if compromised, could reasonably be expected to cause serious injury outside the national interest, for example, loss of reputation or competitive advantage.
3) Protected A (low-sensitive): applies to information that, if compromised, could reasonably be expected to cause injury outside the national interest, for example, disclosure of exact salary figures.

It could be a standard classification for the dept or they could view the disclosed information as sufficient to cause identity theft in the wrong hands.

You mean you are a protected refugee? If you were listed as a refugee along with your parent(s) then you should not return to your home country as this can cause you to lose your PR status. If you were only listed as a dependent from your parent(s) refugee application then you should be fine to return to your home country, get married and sponsor your spouse, provided you meet the guidelines for doing so.
