Is the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB) considered social assistance? I brought my wife and son to Canada and we qualified for COHB. I now received a T5007 slip in the mail under my wife's name. We get a rent payment of $1000 a month and have been for a few months now.
I am worried I may have to pay this amount back if it is considered social assistance. The CIC/IRCC website is vague in terms of what is considered social assistance and what isn't.
All I know is that Ontario Works (welfare) is 100% considered social assistance and would have to be repaid. I don't know about this benefit.
I called the Province and they couldn't give me an answer as to whether it was or not in relation to the 3 year sponsorship undertaking and not being allowed to take "social assistance"
IIRC couldn't give me a definitive answer either.
Do you think the Ministry of Community and Social Services would know?
