Just wondering if it is better to have a lawyer when going through spousal sponsorship or not? What can a lawyer really help you with in the process?

Depends on your situation, a lot of people do it themselves no problem, however as a quick read through the board will show plenty of people do have problems. If your situation involves things that may be an issue, (say a criminal conviction), then I'd suggest looking into getting a lawyer. Or if you're not comfortable with the process and want an expert double checking you...

Yes, I would agree with JimM. Many people don't have a lawyer and have no problem, however if you have a particularly complicated case (like criminal issues, unusual relationship, relationship that is hard to prove or some other issue that you are not sure how to present in your application) then you could probably benefit from a lawyer/consultant (just make sure to check their credentials/reputation and get references if you can because a quick look at this forum will show their are a lot of "professionals" out their who don't know what they're doing.)

If you are sure of the process or will have time to know, then apply by yourself. otherwise there is nothing wrong to go for a lawyer.
