i had problems to change name of my child , so i sent file (application) with his passport with name i am willing to change !
i was advised to not change name before passport request because this would delay the process
my question is , what is the best time to change name ? before passport request ? or after permanent visa before landing? or after landing ?
and do i need to remake his passport with new name ? in this case the visa on old passport (with old name)will be valid or no ?
what if i will change name only without making new passport ? which name will be on the PR card ?

please advise

i read the guide of "Request to Amend Record of Landing" (IMM 5218)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5218ETOC.asp#apply

put not sure it is my case because i didn't do landing yet

if you can get his name changed AND get a new copy of his passport before the visa office requests his passport, then change it before PPR. The name in the passport MUST match the name on the approval paper, and the visa office will not issue the visa if the name does not match. If it's not possible to do, then you will need to wait until AFTER he receives his FIRST PR card. The first PR card will be issued in the same name as on visa. Changing a name on a PR card is $50. If you change the name before ppr, then you must make sure to send an updated copy of the passport so it can be attached to the application and the visa is issued correctly.

thanks mr. rhcohen2014 for answering finally
but to make my question clear, he got visa already with the old name (before change) , and i am willing to change the name .
is it better to make new passport before landing (and before PR card) ?
or after landing (and after PR card) ?

If you already have a visa with the old name, I would suggest not changing it until after you land. Otherwise, you may have problem landing. The immigration officer may think that you are trying to land on the visa of another person.

When you settle in Canada, google name change in your province to find out the steps. After changing your name, you would have it changed by Service Canada for your SIN, by health care, on your drivers license and on your PR card. You would also ask your home country embassy in Canada to issue your a new passport with your new name.

but i was thinking if i will change name in the home country , and bring proof that the owner of new passport is the same person in the old passport
it is not ok ?

If you insist on changing your name now, you should inform the visa office immediately. It is possible that they may want to issue you a new visa. I would not take the chance to land without informing them with a PR visa showing one name and a new passport showing another, even if you have other proof.

What is the hurry now changing your name anyway? You have lived with it all your life?

the problem is name of my newborn baby , not in my name.
he has his mother's family name instead of mine.
of course i can wait , not in hurry , but if it is possible to change now and get PR card with new name , why to spend time and money later to change PR , medical card ,SIN ...., etc ? .
