Hello,
I have been a teaching assistant at my university as a graduate student for 6 years (MSc + PhD years).
My total work hours exceed the 1950 hrs limit set by the CIC, but the problem is that I have 4 months of gap between each academic years that I served as a TA (I didn't work as a TA between months of May to August of each year, due to the summer break)
is my employment as TA still count as continuous experience?

thank you

yes.

yes for sure?
I even phoned the call center but they wouldn't help me out only because I am applying under FSW

yes, as far as i know. coz u didn't leave ur job for a new job or weren't job less. it is a pattern of ur job that u do not work for 4 months. but it is a permanent job. i think it would be better if u could insert this condition in ur employment contract that u r not to work for 4 months in one year & also in ur reference letter that this is ur permanent job, u r required not to work for 4 months. u will be fine. however, it's my personal view. so plz wait for comments from the experts

...my TAship is not exactly a permenant job..I can only hold TA for 8months in an academic year, but is renewable for next academic year, as long as my performance as a student is satisfactory. Also the number of years of TA cannot exceed the normal duration of my studies. so I can work as TA only up to 6 years (MSc + PhD).

do you still think that my experience is continuous?

I am in the same boat right now and could not find any other relevant post. I have a question. I have 3 years of continuous work experience in india and 2 years of Masters degree where I worked as GA (20hrs) followed by another 1.5 years of US experience. I also worked as a co-op for 6 months (included in those 2 years of Masters). My all work experience even as a TA is related to industrial or mechanical engineering. Will that be counted as a continuous work experience of 5 years ? Please guide me.

Your experience will be counted from the Experience Letter you will provide to CIC. This is how they judge you
