Going to the doctor is covered, operations in hospital are covered if they are medically necessary.

Ambulance, dentist and medication, not covered.

However, many employers offer a group insurance where you pay a bit but in return, you will also get coverage for dental and medication to some degree.

I think I will be moving to AB. Is it similar to that of Ontario.

Yes, all of the provinces are similar in what they cover. As a new PR, you will however be covered in AB right away while in Ontario, you would have a 3 month waiting period.
