Hi,
I got my OWP (open work permit) because my spouse came to study in a college (study permit). My permit is valid to the end of spouse's studies and I'm working in Canada. Unfortunately my spouse needs to drop the college and return. What happens with my OWP? Is any chance that this affects me? I can't find information about this case and I believe is quite common.

Thank you

Others can correct me but I would think that as your OWP was granted on basis of your wifes study permit that if that gets cancelled due to non attendance then you no longer qualify for an OWP so will be out of status.

Regardless of why it is issued, a work permit remains valid until it is either formally revoked by IRCC or it expires. Generally, IRCC only revokes work permits when some sort of misrepresentation or fraud has occurred.

so just for my clarification someone can come in on a study permit, partner gets an OWP valid same term as the study permit . Then as in this example the study permit applicant drops out , leaves the country, gets reported by the college, study permit gets revoked due to non attendance but the OWP is still good for the original expiry date of the study permit unless revoked for some other reason ? If so just seems a bit of a stretch given the OWP was issued off back of the study permit.

Good point. I'm not sure what will happen. If the college is going to inform the dropout then are they (cic) going after me? I wanna be sure to be able to apply through express entry.

Yeah, pretty much.
