I a planning to land within months in Torono . Since I am a university lecturer in archaeology , I am sure that it will not be easy to find a job for me in Canada. However I am willing to take survival jobs at the beginning just to go on.
Now the question is : How easy is it to find a job in a restaurant or a like job for some one who is 35 ,,,,and what happens for example if an immigrant stayed for one year without a job and his funds are exhausted,,,,, does he have to go back to his country or are there any other options or government support?

There are government support options available.

But keep in mind that the government support provided is minimal. Those living on government support are living below the poverty line and it's not a good life.

If you're moving to Toronto, I don't think you should have any trouble finding a survival job (based on your post, it sounds like your English is excellent).

Thanks alot for relieving my stress . But can you elaborate more on this support,,,for example is there any link for an association which provides this sort of help?

Hi Hopeful4,

govt support, one can get only after working for sometime,if one doesnt have canadian working contribution then cant expect support-- hard for new immigrant.

That's only true for Employment Insurance.

This doesn't apply to welfare / social assistance.

Hi friend,
As you name implies you should have hope and be positive. Just come in with the view in mind that i will have a good job and it will work.

hope it helps.

Canadaforall.

Thank you for your replies.
I think it would be very risky to quit one's job and go to Canada to find no job and be homeless and with no income there!!
Therefore the government should provide the minimum support for the new immigrants. AT east for providing children
Another question I Have : what you think the minimum spending for a family of three during a year in Toronto_
