Hi,

I sponsored my common-law partner under the family sponsorship. At the same time, we applied for an open work permit, which was issued once step 1 of the application process was completed.

Now, we're about 5 months into step 2 of the application process and medicals have already been sent and received by CIC. In case we cancel the PR application, does anybody know what happens to the already issued open work permit?

Mainly, would my partner be allowed to continue to work until the work permit expires or would a cancellation of the PR application automatically cancel the work permit as well?

Thanks for your help!

Since the OWP was only approved because of the AIP from your sponsorship application, it would stand to reason that it would no longer be valid if you cancel the sponsorship application.

It would cancel out the work permit as well, yes. Also, if you are not splitting up with your partner, why would you cancel the application? You would be out all the money and time. *shrugs* Just wondering because your initial post doesn't sound like that of someone who is on the edge of ending a relationship.

Yes, I definitely think it would be cancelled!
