What happens to GIC when we can’t enter Canada?

With the new update on pgwp and most uni and colleges switching to online delivery for fall semester, has anyone asked about their GIC policies?

It says on my GIC with CIBC that I need to activate it once I arrive in Canada. Now that I’m definitely doing fall semester online, and possibly winter semester too, I’m curious as to how the GIC would work. I am yet to reach out to CIBC but was wondering if anyone has any information already.

After either refusal or AIP, i think you can choose to keep money in Canada or request a refund. But I think if you end up going to Canada for PGWP or even mid session, you may have to show GIC proof again.
